What you receive
An email when new listings qualify, at most ten, best match first: the title, the agency, the deadline and the match score, linking to the listing on Federal Awards with its full match breakdown and the official notice. If a deadline changes on a listing you saved, the email tells you that too. When nothing new qualifies and nothing you saved changed, there is no email.
How a listing qualifies
The same rule-based Match Score you see on the site decides what an alert carries. A listing is sent only when all of these hold:
- It scores at least 60 out of 100 (a Good Match or better).
- Your NAICS codes or the words that describe your work actually match it - a listing that only avoids problems isn't advertised as a match.
- It has no verified eligibility blocker, such as an applicant type the grant excludes, a set-aside you can't hold, or a deadline that has passed.
- It is open or forecasted, and new since your last alert.

SAM.gov and Grants.gov have notifications too
They are the official sources. With a SAM.gov account you can save a contract opportunity search and turn on notifications for it; with a Grants.gov account you can subscribe to saved searches, new opportunities or a specific opportunity and receive a nightly email.
Federal Awards is an independent service, not affiliated with either, that adds profile-based matching around those same listings: one Business Profile across contracts and grants, a score and a qualifying bar for every listing, and no email when nothing new fits. Always confirm deadlines and requirements on the official listing before you act.

What are Federal Awards alerts?
Email alerts for new federal contract and grant opportunities that match your organization’s Business Profile. They cost $14.99/month and need a free Federal Awards account.
How are matches determined?
By the same deterministic Match Score as the website - set-aside and applicant eligibility, NAICS alignment, the words that describe your work, location and deadline - not by AI. Only listings scoring 60 or more with real evidence of fit are sent.
Are contracts and grants both supported?
Yes. Contracts come from SAM.gov and grants from Grants.gov. Your alerts cover whichever your Business Profile seeks: contracts, grants, or both.
How often are new opportunities checked?
After each of the three daily data refreshes - 7 AM, 11 AM and 7 PM Washington, DC time. You get an email only when something new qualifies.
Will I get the same listing over and over?
No. Each alert includes only listings Federal Awards first picked up after your previous alert. An agency that re-posts or amends a notice can occasionally produce a new listing, which would be treated as new.
Do I need a Business Profile?
Yes - it’s what alerts match against. A completed free search creates one, and you can refine it on the Business Profile page.
Can I set up alerts with different criteria?
Opportunity Alerts include one Custom Alert with its own filters (contracts or grants, agency, set-aside, value, dates) on top of the Business Profile alert. Federal Awards Pro ($39.99/month) includes up to 10 Custom Alerts, alerts created with Federal Awards AI, and one combined digest.
Do I still need SAM.gov and Grants.gov?
Yes. They are the official sources: registration and the full official notice are there, and applications or responses follow the instructions in each notice. Every alert links to the official listing.
How do I cancel?
Anytime, from your account page with Manage billing. The unsubscribe link in each email stops the emails but does not cancel billing on its own.
Does a match guarantee eligibility or an award?
No. A match means your profile lines up with what the listing states. The issuing agency decides eligibility and awards.
