Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026 (draft)
Federal Awards (“we,” “us”) is an independent commercial service. This policy describes what information we collect when you use federalawards.com and why.
What we collect
Guided search profile. When you run a guided search, your answers (organization type, description, NAICS codes, keywords, location, small-business status) are stored in your browser’s local storage, not on our servers, and are used only to score opportunities against your answers. Searching never requires an account, an email address, or any other identifying information.
Purchased reports. If you buy an Opportunity Readiness Report, a snapshot of your profile at that moment is stored on our servers under an unguessable report identifier. If you’re signed in when you buy, the report is also linked to your account so you can find it again. The snapshot is used to generate your report and, if you contact us about it, to look into it.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number - Stripe handles that directly, and we receive only a payment confirmation and non-sensitive correlation data (which report it was for).
Usage analytics. We record anonymous, aggregate funnel events (for example, that a search was started or a report was purchased) tied to a randomly generated identifier, not to you personally, so we can understand and improve the product.
Accounts (optional). If you create an account, we store your name, email address, and - for email sign-up - a password. Passwords are never stored in readable form: we keep only a salted scrypt hash, which can’t be reversed into your password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and Google account identifier; we never see your Google password. We also keep session records (including IP address and browser user agent) so we can keep you signed in and detect misuse.
Email subscriptions. If you subscribe to the newsletter or alerts, we store your email address and, for personalized alerts, the profile we match against. We send email through our provider (Resend) only after you confirm your address, and every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
What we don’t collect
- Social Security numbers, bank account details, or government portal credentials
- Full payment card numbers (Stripe handles these, not us)
- Any data beyond what you type into the guided search or that Stripe needs to bill you
How we use official opportunity data
Contract and grant listings come from SAM.gov and Grants.gov, official U.S. government sources. We store and normalize this public data to power search and matching; it is not personal information about you.
Third parties
We use Stripe for payments, Cloudflare for hosting and infrastructure, Resend to deliver email, Google for optional sign-in, and an AI provider (currently Anthropic) to help generate report narratives from the facts we’ve already verified. None of these receive more information than they need to do their job.
Data retention
Guided search profiles in your browser persist until you clear your browser storage. Report snapshots and generated reports are retained so you can return to a report you’ve paid for; contact us if you’d like one deleted.
Your choices
Clearing your browser’s local storage removes your saved search profile entirely. You can unsubscribe from any email in one click. To delete your account and the reports and subscriptions linked to it, contact us using the information below.
